Blink Parametric, the Irish Insurtech firm, is expanding its real-time travel assistance technology into Africa in partnership with MAWDY, a global insurance and reinsurance company within the MAPFRE Group. This marks the first entry of both companies into the Sub-Saharan market, beginning with Kenya.
Partnerships prove critical to embedded travel insurance success
The flagship service, Blink Flight Disruption, will be introduced to ceding insurers reinsured by MAWDY starting in the third quarter of 2024. Initially available in Kenya, it will gradually extend to other countries in the region through MAWDY’s network.
Blink Parametric’s service tracks registered flights in real-time. If a flight is delayed by four hours or more, travelers receive a notification and gain VIP access to one of 1,300 executive airport lounges worldwide. This access, valid for six months if not used on the day of the disruption, aims to alleviate the stress of flight delays.
Sid Mouncey, CEO of Blink Parametric, noted the importance of this expansion: “Entering Africa is a significant milestone for us, demonstrating the strength of our partnership with MAWDY. Their solutions support major insurance brands globally, and with Blink Parametric, we are ready to offer 24/7 real-time travel assistance to their partners and customers in Kenya. We are excited to extend this service across Africa.”
The Blink Flight Disruption service is designed to efficiently handle high-frequency, low-severity claims, providing immediate resolutions to travelers.
Zigor Díez Gamboa, Global Head of Travel Segment at MAWDY, added: “MAWDY has been a key player in travel insurance across Sub-Saharan Africa for 20 years. Partnering with Blink Parametric enhances our service offerings and supports our digital assistance strategy in the region. Real-time assistance is crucial to meeting our customer commitments, and we are thrilled to introduce this solution.”
This expansion underscores the growing global reach of both Blink Parametric and MAWDY.
