Legaroo Assist is a pioneering hybrid “legal tech/ insure tech / travel tech” platform that provides 24/7 access to international legal assistance to travelers facing urgent and unforeseen legal issues abroad.

Concept and objectives We offer expeditious access to a vetted network of over 3,000 credentialed local lawyers in 120+ countries, speaking multiple languages. Travelers get rapid coordination, initial legal response (first response hours of assistance included per plan), guidance, and support for issues like accidents, transit penalties, arrests, immigration emergencies, lost documents, disputes, or local law violations—ensuring quick assessment, prevention of escalation, and peace of mind. Plans are bundled by insurers, assistance companies, travel agencies, duty of care platforms, loyalty programs, etc.

Reasons behind As travelers ourselves (and lawyers), we realized how vulnerable people are in foreign countries due to unknown laws, language barriers, cultural differences, ignorance, accidents, or bad luck. Traditional travel insurance and assistance plans often provide only limited or referral-based legal help (in some limited cases transit-related), leaving a major gap for comprehensive, on-the-ground urgent legal support. Post-pandemic, travelers prioritize better protection and prevention—Legaroo fills this unmet need, complementing existing insurance with specialized, affordable legal backup.

State of competition The market is niche and underserved. Most major travel insurers like Allianz, AXA, or assistance providers, offer basic legal referrals or hotline support, often at the traveler's expense beyond limited coverage. Few provide direct, pre-paid, first-response local lawyer access for broad urgent events. Legaroo stands out as a unique, dedicated global legal provider focused exclusively on this vertical, with a scalable network of vetted firms—creating a "just-in-case retained lawyer" experience that's innovative and differentiated.

Sources of inspiration Founded by Alex Thompson (CEO) and Adrián Obando, the idea stemmed from personal travel experiences and legal backgrounds. We drew from the need for reliable, affordable help in unfamiliar jurisdictions, inspired by the growth of travel tech (e.g., apps for safety/insurance) and the transformation of legal services into accessible, tech-enabled platforms. Partnerships with law firms worldwide turned local experts into a global safety net, also creating growth opportunities for them.
