Innovation presentation

Requesting additional information from applicants' doctors ("attending physician statement") is one of the greatest sources of delays in the life insurance application process. This is compounded by the fact that this part of the process is usually not digitalised. These individual reports, typically written by hand, are associated with a high degree of effort – for doctors and underwriters alike and often lack the specific information required. Using the web-based MIRApply Physician service provides multiple advantages: 1) it speeds up the application process by reducing the time until the insurance company receives feeback, 2) it reduces the overhead for the underwriter to analyze the doctor's feedback from an average of 45 minutes to 5 minutes and 3) it provides the data in a consistent, structured format which can be used for further in-depth analyses. In addition to these advantages, the user also has a sound basis for decisions in the form of the permanently up-to-date Munich Re online underwriting manual MIRA. MIRA stands for ‘Munich Re Internet Risk Assessor’ and is Munich Re’s comprehensive tool for underwriting all kinds of risks in life insurance. MIRA is the key to Munich Re's extensive knowledge and expertise in life underwriting. More than 6.000 users use this tool in about 700 organizations around the globe. Summing up, MIRApply Physician is not only about designing a workflow, but implementing a complete digitalized knowledge-based decision process. The solution is fully productive and already used by 9 clients. It was developed by a joint team of the Life And Health division and the IT division of Munich Re.
