Innovation presentation

The aging of populations has evolved into one of the macro trends taking the headlines in many economic agendas worldwide. One in three people living in Spain is over the age of 55, according to the Fundación MAPFRE Agingnomics Research Center. There are already 15 million seniors in the country, the majority of whom are both prepared and keen to participate in the economy. These take good care of themselves and have shown themselves to be ready to adopt technology into all aspects of their lives. A common strand among this cohort is their avowed sense of self-determination: the vast majority of them have declared a preference for aging in place. This lengthened longevity is something to be celebrated, as is the desire of our elderly to maintain their independence and dignity. Aging in place does however bring with it the need to monitor the well-being of older persons, quite often against their wishes. The reasons for this are not just emotional – research shows clearly that there are growing risks associated with older people living on their own: falling once doubles their chances of falling again. MAPFRE and Aerial have developed an environmental technology solution based on artificial intelligence that infers human movement through the distortion of Wi-Fi signals, which facilitates the efficient tracking of the movements and routines of the elderly in their homes, without invading their privacy. Using Live Easy couldn’t be simpler: the user receives an easy-to-install Wi-Fi device that they plug in at home (an installation service is offered if necessary), the family member or primary caregiver downloads the related app on their mobile and one week later, all the information required to ensure the person’s continued well-being is saved on the system. Aerial's solution gives peace of mind to family members and allows them to better care for their loved ones, while seniors can maintain independent lives, knowing that help is at hand should it be required.
