DenizBank’s strategy for 2018 is focusing on innovation and disrupting traditional banking processes and products with innovative and digital solutions. To achieve those goals, we need to encourage each employee to pay attention on the latest trends and figure out how to implement those trends to their daily processes. We created a mobile platform for employees to wake up the hidden innovation potential of them. The unique capability of this platform is; users can rate other employee’s solutions or challenge a duello to those solutions with their own solutions to win a competition. The winner of the competition is selected according to the results of the likes, each solution gets in a certain period.
“I have a solution- Open Innovation app” will create a coopetitive (Cooperative & Competitive at the sametime) idea playground (Solution Tournament) within the bank. The application is used by the employees, including even tellers and CXOs together.
Gamification is an important part of the application. We believe success comes from a collective wisdom so employees can vote, like and make a tournament/duello to all other employees’ solutions using the gamification platform. There is no jury in this innovation platform, everyone can be a jury or problem solver. Everyone can decide which solution the best solution is or who is the most innovative person in this platform, so each user can be a part of solution/innovation.
Thanks to “I Have a Solution” app, all the ideas and solutions will be in open innovation platform and it will create brain storming between employees on an online platform.
Uniqueness of the project
There are several platforms in other banks where people are able to share ideas via some platforms but those platforms don’t foster open innovation culture and as a result employees are not willing to challenge or assess other employee’s solutions with a duello. DenizBank is the first bank in Turkey for creating a mobile open innovation platform for employees. We are not just providing a mobile platform for entry of ideas, we also encourage the employees to be part of each solution by liking, commenting or challenging each other’s solution with a duello. Employees are getting a score based on their activities and ranked accordingly. The employees with the highest score win several cash prizes and get the chance to implement their idea in our innovation lab with the experts of topic. That increases their visibility within the bank and also their motivation about their jobs.
The other differentiating factor of the platform is “Duello” which is the first in the sector. The employees can challenge each other with the duello option by inviting to solution arena. All others are digitally voting for both solutions and the winning solution is killing the loser. This platform is so liberal that a teller can kill a CEO. This part will lead to collect best improvement for processes and products. Beside that, because of its gamification feature, the platform is more disruptive and different than the competitors.
