At work with Puneet Kapoor

Puneet Kapoor is senior executive vice president at Kotak Mahindra Bank Limited. He spoke to Efma’s Boris Plantier about his life and work.

Please tell me a little about your background.

I am a commerce graduate with a degree in management. I come from a small town in India with a middle-class upbringing. I began my career as a management trainee at Escorts Ltd, an Indian engineering company. I moved to the banking sector a year later.

After working for a decade in two multinational corporations, Citibank and American Express (largely in front line, set up and strategic roles), I moved to Kotak Mahindra Group in 2002. As a founding member of the banking business for the group, over the last 16 years I have led and participated in setting up the pillars of the business, right from the organization structure to process manuals, training methodologies, product design, distribution strategy, transaction risk monitoring framework, Direct to Consumer (D2C) platforms, analytics centre of excellence, AI use cases across customer experience and employee up-skill and running non-face-to-face channels.
