ASB has teamed up with Rewiring Aotearoa to drive an innovative initiative aiming to transition Kiwi homes to low-cost, low-emissions electricity. This partnership involves ASB financing a pilot study to identify barriers and opportunities for consumers in energy transitions, focusing on renewable energy adoption and electrification of appliances and vehicles.
The pilot, led by Rewiring Aotearoa, will explore the feasibility of installing solar panels, batteries, electric hot water heating, cooktops, heat pumps, and electric vehicles in select Kiwi homes. ASB intends to leverage insights from the study to enhance its products and services, facilitating more New Zealanders' transition from expensive imported fossil fuels to locally generated renewable electricity.
Stephen Bendall, ASB's Executive General Manager for sustainability, emphasizes the importance of encouraging consumers to shift towards renewable electricity to achieve New Zealand's net-zero carbon emissions target and reduce household energy costs.
Mike Casey, CEO of Rewiring Aotearoa, highlights the significance of finance in facilitating the transition to electrified appliances and vehicles, citing the economic and environmental benefits. The collaboration between ASB and Rewiring Aotearoa aims to empower New Zealanders to access these benefits, contributing to the country's transition to a more electric economy.
Through this partnership, ASB and Rewiring Aotearoa seek to accelerate the adoption of sustainable energy solutions, fostering a more resilient and environmentally friendly future for New Zealand.
