Ping An launches AI-powered global platform to combat climate risks
A new tool for climate disaster management.
As extreme weather events and natural disasters surge worldwide, Ping An Property & Casualty Insurance (P&C) has launched the global version of its AI-powered risk mitigation platform, EagleX. The platform offers disaster risk assessments, early warnings, and claims support aimed at helping governments, businesses, and individuals better prepare for and respond to climate-related crises. Since its original launch in 2017, EagleX has pioneered the use of big data, meteorological models, satellite remote sensing, and machine learning to analyze and predict risks from floods, typhoons, droughts, and other natural hazards.
How EagleX works
EagleX taps into over 2 trillion data points on geography, meteorology, insurance, and disaster history to assess risks for nine types of natural disasters. It generates detailed, digital risk maps and issues 15 kinds of alerts via AI phone calls, mobile apps, and texts. In 2024 alone, the platform identified over 3,600 high-risk cases and sent 10.5 billion alerts to 67 million customers worldwide, spanning property, auto, and agricultural insurance sectors. During Typhoon Yagi’s strike on Hainan province, EagleX sent more than 24 million warnings roughly 72 hours before landfall, helping residents and vehicle owners prepare. In another case, EagleX detected mountain deformation during the underwriting of a hydropower project in Pakistan, triggering an alert that prevented a costly landslide.
A comprehensive global risk management tool
The global version of EagleX is China’s first insurance-developed risk mitigation platform offered internationally. It features three main functions: natural disaster risk mapping, real-time disaster alerts, and satellite monitoring for remote claims verification. By integrating multi-source remote sensing data, the platform supports accurate risk identification and streamlined post-disaster responses.
Ping An P&C, China’s second-largest property insurer, underwrote nearly 3,000 projects in 125 countries in 2024, with insured values totaling $264 billion. The company’s approach combines insurance with advanced technology and services to reduce disaster losses and protect clients globally. Ping An aims to continue evolving EagleX’s capabilities to provide smarter, more precise natural disaster risk management, contributing to safer cities and more resilient economies worldwide.
