With a firm foundation on a BIAN (Banking Industry Architecture Network)-based Enterprise Architecture, UnionBank launched its API Platform two years ago. This is a key strategic initiative in its digital journey towards Open and Embedded Banking. Along with the platform is a Center of Excellence (COE) for API Development and Integration. The API Platform enables a faster time-to-market of the Bank’s Major Strategic Initiatives, such as: - Organize Hackathons all over the country, gathering hundreds of developers from various groups. - Launch the first fully digital bank branch in the country (The ARK) where developer.unionbankph.com was launched to various Fintechs - Convergent Banking (Mobile and Web/Online Banking) was launched through Agile development and co-creation with users; top features include Split Bill, QR Code payments, etc.) Aside from the above, the API Platform also allows various FinTechs to readily benefit from UBPs banking capabilities such as but not limited to: funds transfer, bills payment, balance inquiry, branch locations, loan calculator, credit card inquiry, and more. UBPs framework is to share its capabilities and embrace partnerships. This unique capability allowed UBP to be chosen as the first VISA Blockchain B2B Payments Partner in the Philippines and the only Philippine bank partner for the ASEAN Financial Innovation Network (AFIN), an initiative of the Monetary Authority of Singapore and the IFC World Bank).
