After a vast history of corporate social responsibility as the DNA of the Popular brand and based on the commitment to incorporate sustainability in all areas of our business, in 2019 Banco Popular Dominicano joined the Principles of Responsible Banking of the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative, a collective response of the banking sector to establish long-term objectives, considering the social and environmental impacts of the projects and activities, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement.
We are the first bank in the insular Caribbean region to be part of this important initiative, which seeks to transform the global economy by reducing or eliminating the use of fossil fuels and expanding the use of clean energy, for lower emissions of polluting gases. This led us to set the goal of being the leaders in renewable energy financing, becoming the largest providers of green products and green financial services by 2030.
In response to this commitment, we are the first bank in the country to have a portfolio of products designed specifically for sustainable finance. The Hazte Eco portfolio includes green accounts and loans with preferential rates for the acquisition of solar panels, sustainable mobility, energy efficiency and green leasing, both for personal and business customers. In addition, we have financed 3 large scale projects for renewable energy in the country.
Recently, Banco Popular reported its incorporation into the Alliance for Carbon Accounting in the Financial Industry, where participants work to develop the Global Greenhouse Gas Accounting and Reporting Standard, to measure and disclose the emissions of polluting gases from its loans and investments. Popular's affiliation to this alliance means the deepening of its commitment to its own sustainable vision and to the United Nations Responsible Banking Principles.
