Innovation presentation

Baloise Employee Empowerment is a movement that inspires bottom up automation within Baloise. We empower employees to develop digital solutions independently using no-code and low-code technologies—quickly, flexibly, and without IT expertise. The core of our innovation is our Citizen Development Approach: Business units design and optimize their processes independently, IT bottlenecks are bypassed—leading to faster implementation of new ideas. Automation reduces manual work, increases efficiency, and improves quality. With easyAsk and other digital tools, we have enabled 20 business units and 500 users to optimize and automate their processes independently.

Employee Empowerment In the past, many employees found it frustrating that IT solutions or process optimizations had long lead times or were not implemented at all due to prioritization constraints. We believe that valuable efficiency potential remained untapped and innovative ideas faded away. We have fundamentally changed this mindset by enabling business units to develop their own solutions—quickly, flexibly, and with direct benefits for their area.

A New Mindset as the Key to Success…

1. Increasing Operational Efficiency By allowing teams to design their own digital processes, we avoid unnecessary waiting times and reduce complex manual steps. This leads to significant time and cost savings—a clear example of operational efficiency. When business units optimize their processes, they create immediate value and contribute to making our organization faster, leaner, and more effective.

2. Ensuring Technical Profitability Process digitalization, combined with automation where needed, helps us manage resources more efficiently, reduce unnecessary costs, and minimize error-prone workflows. This has a direct positive impact on our loss ratio. Optimized claims processing and improved customer communication enhance transparency and reduce workload, contributing directly to technical profitability.

3. Driving Growth Through Innovation By enabling business units to develop their own solutions, we foster a culture of continuous improvement. Employees are encouraged to develop new ideas for process optimization, cost savings, and innovative products.

4. Increasing Capital Productivity Efficiency gains, cost savings, and increased innovation capacity directly impact capital productivity. By investing in no-code and low-code solutions, we allocate our resources where they generate the highest value. At the same time, optimized processes and the elimination of unnecessary efforts ensure that capital is used more effectively.

A New Mindset as the Key to Success The key takeaway is that by empowering employees, we have changed the mindset within our business units. Digitalization and automation are no longer exclusive IT topics—they have become an integral part of daily operations. Business units can now proactively think about automation solutions, implement their ideas independently, and contribute to Baloise’s strategic development. As a result, every single employee becomes a creator of our future, making our company more efficient, profitable, and innovative.
