Sergio Gutierrez, Corporate Director of AgroBank at CaixaBank, spoke with Efma’s Lukas Dzuroska about how an environmental vision results in AgroBank being a strategically important part of CaixaBank.
In your opinion, what role can banks play in the sustainable agriculture movement?
I sincerely believe that we banks play a highly relevant role, acting as facilitators of the transition towards more productive and sustainable agriculture. This "new" agriculture requires investments, and we banks must facilitate this transition by providing products that are suited to the needs, such as offering grace periods during the first few years of the loan.
In order to achieve the transition towards sustainable agriculture, we need to develop the competitiveness together. The funds obtained from the Next Generation initiative should help, but we cannot see it as the only solution; the other policies must be aligned with it.
.In our case, from CaixaBank in general and AgroBank in particular, we want to transmit to the sector the need to foster sustainability and innovation.
