In March 2023, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) and Sumitomo Mitsui Card Company (SMBC Card) launched Olive, a mobile‑first financial service that integrates traditional bank accounts, card payments, financing, securities, insurance, and other functions into a single smartphone application. The service was developed over roughly two and a half years with the goal of offering SMBC and SMBC Card products together in one package, reflecting broader shifts in how Japanese consumers interact with financial services.
