In this interview, Didier Cadic, CEO of Geoya, shares the story behind the climate risk prevention platform that earned Geoya a Qorus Innovation in Insurance Award in the Social, Sustainable & Responsible category.

Didier reflects on Geoya’s mission to help insurers move from repairing damage to preventing it, the importance of collaboration across the insurance ecosystem, and how technology can help build greater climate resilience.

Can you introduce Geoya, yourself, and tell us more about your role at your company?

I’m Didier Cadic, CEO of Geoya, with 20 years of experience in entrepreneurship and innovation. My role today is to bring together technology, insurance expertise, and partnerships to make climate resilience tangible and scalable.

Geoya is a climate risk prevention platform founded by Generali France, MAIF, Société Générale Assurances, Saretec, and Sixense, and open to all insurers. We combine digital tools and expert services to help policyholders understand their properties’ vulnerabilities and take practical action. Our ambition is to help insurance move from repairing damage to preventing it.

What made you most proud of Geoya’s climate risk platform?

What makes me most proud is that we made an audacious idea a reality: bringing competing insurers together, alongside risk engineering specialists, to build a shared solution. It took trust and a strong conviction that climate resilience is a challenge we must address collectively.

I’m equally proud that Geoya can make a practical difference in people’s lives, helping them understand their vulnerabilities and take concrete steps to protect their homes, businesses, and livelihoods. Beyond the platform itself, we want to help change mindsets: insurance must move from repairing damage to anticipating and preventing it. Making that shift tangible and accessible is what gives our work its purpose.

What’s the most important thing you would tell someone considering embarking on a similar project?

Don’t reinvent the wheel. Build the right partnerships and invest time in creating a strong ecosystem. Projects like this are as much about people and trust as they are about technology. In our case, it took nearly five years to bring everything together.

What’s coming next for Geoya’s climate risk platform?

Our next priority is to bring prevention to more policyholders, expanding deployment with insurers and integrating Geoya into their customer journeys.

We are also broadening our scope beyond flooding, with solutions for shrink-swell of clays under development, and storm risks next on the roadmap.

Central to this growth is end-to-end support: a complete climate risk prevention journey, from raising awareness and assessing vulnerability to personalized action plans and the completion of adaptation works. This includes helping policyholders implement the recommended actions by coordinating traders, managing administrative processes, and, where relevant, facilitating access to available funding. Our ambition is to make adaptation an integral part of insurance and help preserve the long-term insurability of exposed properties.

What would you say to companies that might consider entering the 2027 Insurance Innovation Awards?

Go for it, and tell your story clearly. Explain the problem you are solving, what makes your approach different, and how it benefits people.

Preparing an entry is a valuable opportunity to step back and articulate what your innovation contributes. It also opens your project to an international community of peers. Our experience shows that innovation can come from bringing existing expertise together in a new way around a shared challenge.

What does this award mean to you and your innovation team?

Winning Gold in the Social, Sustainable & Responsible category is a source of collective pride. It recognizes the commitment of our team and partners, and the work behind building Geoya.

It also gives international visibility to a conviction we share: prevention must play a greater role in insurance. For us, this recognition brings fresh energy and a responsibility to keep turning that ambition into practical protection for policyholders.
