The Efma-Accenture Insurance Innovation of the Month award for December goes to Groupama Insurance for GARI, your farming assistant: a one stop application to support farmers in their day to day activity, the management of their farm and its protection.
Groupama, the leading agriculture insurer in France, introduced GARI, bringing the best agriculture services available on the market to their customers through a simple, freemium app.
Farmers are always seeking to save time, simplify their planning, and become more efficient. Groupama spent 2017 and 2018 listening to its clients through field trips, round tables and interviews. Through this, they identified growing needs among their customers for protection and support in the management of the farm.
Armed with a deeper knowledge of their customers’ needs, Groupama developed a flagship offering that is a unique combination of information, tools and services to help farmers in their necessary activities and tasks.
The application, which is available on both the Apple store and Google Play, aggregates six services. Three services are free of charge: agriculture weather information stream, farm task management, and market rates for wheat, rape and corn. And three services are available to purchase: Agriculture video surveillance, connected hay stack sensor, and dedicated precision weather forecast station.
All of these services have been fully co-built, field-tested and validated by farmers in order to ensure they meet client needs and expectations. They provide farmers with valuable tools to manage their everyday tasks, protect themselves against any possible threats, and most importantly, plan effectively for the future.
The immediate results have been very promising. Two months after the launch, GARI has been downloaded 17,000 times. The retail network is entirely trained (900 people) and sales of billed services have just begun.
GARI is merely the first step in Groupama’s efforts to develop innovative service offerings for their agricultural customers. They plan to continue to extend the services scope, leveraging Groupama’s regional units and strong ties with the agriculture ecosystem in France.
Gari will be automatically selected as a nominee for the Efma-Accenture Innovation in Insurance Awards 2020. Submit your innovations on the Innovation in Insurance portal to win January Innovation of the Month. Participation is free of charge and open to all insurance players. Deadline is 10 January.
