Cat Rust, Head of Innovation Technologies, Greater China at UBS, tells Efma’s Boris Plantier about her dynamic working life.
Tell me a little about your background.
I have had a very unusual background for someone in the finance industry.
I was a graduate fast track in the chemical industry before deciding that I needed more adventure. I moved to building factories, restaurants and warehouses for amusement parks in China for five years before moving to Hong Kong to set up the local operations for one of the top global internet consultancies. I left to have my first child and, mistakenly, thought that setting up my own company would give me more time with the baby; three more children and seven more technology companies later I realized my mistake!
My latest challenge is to take everything I have learned as an entrepreneur and apply it in a very corporate environment which has been incredibly interesting. I have a phenomenal boss who is driven to make change and highly skilled colleagues; together it makes for a powerful force for transformation.
