Kate Coins are KBC’s upgraded advantage program that rewards customer engagement with real, tangible value. Customers automatically (only for customers who have opted for ‘extra convenience’) earn Coins through actions within KBC and its partner ecosystem, and can use them for discounts, experiences, even receive them as cash at the end of the year or choose to donate them to a good cause. Each Coin is always worth at least one euro, and often more through exclusive partner offers. This positions Kate Coins not as a loyalty gimmick, but as a meaningful benefit woven into daily life and major customer journeys.
In insurance contexts, Kate Coins become especially valuable when customers deal with significant life moments - buying a home, financing a car, protecting possessions - Kate identifies needs, guides them through insurance choices, and supports them during claims. These interactions can be rewarded with Kate Coins, turning stressful insurance cases into smoother, supported experiences and adding extra value for the customer. By linking insurance engagement with Kate’s proactive guidance and real financial benefits, KBC strengthens trust while delivering protection, value, and peace of mind in one seamless experience.
For example: a customer can earn 15 Kate Coins by taking a family policy and use these 15 Kate coins when taking out cybersecure, home assistance or bicycle insurance. The 15 Kate coins will then be worth more than 15 euros.
Our project strengthens KBC’s advantage ecosystem by expanding Kate Coins into a more flexible, valuable, and customer centric benefits program. The concept aims to reward customer engagement with real financial value—Kate Coins are always worth at least one euro and can be used for discounts, unique experiences, or paid out in cash. The objective is to enhance customer loyalty and relevance across key life domains, including insurance, where customers often face complexity and stress. Inspired by customer feedback, partner collaborations, and Kate’s evolution as a proactive digital assistant, the project positions Kate Coins as a meaningful complement to KBC’s insurance journeys.
Competition in this space ranges from traditional loyalty systems to international platform players, but Kate Coins differentiate through their integration inside Belgium’s best banking app, strong partner network, and seamless link with insurance interactions. Departments such as Innovation (Transform), MarCom, Corporate Communication, and product teams collaborate closely to ensure a unified storyline and consistent execution across channels. Early results already show strong traction: hundreds of thousands of customers actively earning and using Kate Coins, millions in value delivered, and growing partner engagement - confirming that this project not only strengthens the ecosystem but also enhances the insurance experience through smarter guidance, clearer value, and improved customer trust.
