Enterprise Architecture practices is a specialized area which provides a holistic view of organization, it’s structure, business, process, people, IT systems and data. A dedicated team with right kind of required skill sets, knowledge and cognizance can expeditiously facilitate in implementing the practices more efficaciously & efficiently in a focused way.

Union Bank of India has embarked its digital transformation journey in the year 2021, post which bank has made several IT initiatives in all the business domains which involves several digital journeys, fintech integrations, process automation etc. Hence to align the IT with the business requirements, attain a unified 360 view for informed decisions, to identify areas for innovation to improve operational efficiency to promote reusability. Establishment of EA practice was initiated.

Bank had adopted TOGAF Framework to establish the EA office, TOGAF is the tried and tested and used worldwide. Vendor was onboarded, and an internal team was formed establish the EA practice. The Team is lead by a lead enterprise architect along with 5 domain architects.

The Objective of the project • Alignment of Business strategy with IT strategy and standardization of IT architecture • Develop and implement comprehensive IT governance. • Carrying out the holistic capacity planning of the bank’s IT infrastructure • To enable efficient IT operations • Preparation of a roadmap to establish standardized approach, transparency, control and socialization with all key stakeholders of applications (internal and external), process and technology in contention to have a 360-degree view.

Project kick-offed by forming an EA office which consisted of 5 domain architects, PMO lead by the lead enterprise architect. EA office then embarked on preparing the EA vision and Mission in alignment with the banks vision and mission, EA principles for each domain were defined, EA office Roles and responsibilities were defined, Architecture review boarding was established to review the high end and critical projects. Once the EA office was established and Architecture Review Board (ARB) was formed. EA office was operationalized, to start with EA office started gathering data was from all the team according to each domain . Once the data sheets were received an extensive analysis was conducted on the data that was gathered by each domain architect, gap analysis was prepared. Each Domain architect provided their inputs and recommendations, and As-is and Target architecture was prepared for all the 182 applications. Once the EA office attained it maturity the Architecture review board was established to review all the projects

Outcome/Benefit of the project Asset management, centralized governance was established through the Architecture review board, attained 360-degree view was attained. Application repository was created, Reusability of resource was attained. Banks tech stack was defined. Operational efficiency was attained.
