Reasons Behind the Initiative

The legacy CoreFinance client had become outdated in terms of both usability and scalability. It lacked multi-tasking capabilities, had a rigid, non-ergonomic UI, and limited adaptability to evolving business needs. It became a bottleneck for operations, especially as user expectations shifted toward modern digital workspaces. We needed to modernize the experience—without initiating a full core banking replacement project—to maintain business continuity while still delivering impactful innovation.

State of Competition While many banks are pursuing end-to-end core replacements, few have focused on renewing the client layer—the interface where operations teams engage with core systems daily. Core+ stands out by demonstrating that meaningful modernization can be achieved through incremental innovation at the user layer, reducing risk while maximizing adoption. This approach differentiates us from competitors pursuing longer, riskier core migration programs.

Sources of Inspiration We drew inspiration from modern enterprise productivity tools and digital banking platforms, focusing on user experience, flexibility, and responsiveness. The design was informed by close collaboration with actual users from operations, ensuring the application mirrored their workflows. We also looked at Agile product delivery models and continuous feedback loops to evolve the application throughout rollout.

Departments Involved The initiative was led by the IT Division, specifically the Digital Solutions and Software Infrastructure teams. It was developed in close collaboration with Operations, Retail and Corporate Banking, Compliance, and Support teams across four countries (Netherlands, Germany, Malta, Switzerland). Agile squads—such as White Walkers, Symphony, Captain Core, and others—played a vital role in delivering screen-by-screen modernization.

100+ user interfaces modernized, with improved navigation and task flow

Significant reduction in time spent on multi-branch access and screen switching

User satisfaction and adoption scores exceeded expectations during feedback rounds

Next rollout planned for Romania.
