RAKBANK’s Microservices Platform is a transformative, cloud-native architecture that redefines how the bank designs, builds, and delivers digital capabilities. Conceived to overcome the limitations of rigid, monolithic systems, MICROSERVICES PLATFORM empowers the bank to accelerate innovation while ensuring scalability, stability, and real-time responsiveness. The platform was built to address deep-rooted challenges, including slow time-to-market, downtime-prone deployments, fragmented IT architecture, and outdated operating models that hindered agility. A key ambition was to modernize legacy systems without disrupting business continuity—achieving a seamless migration “in-flight” that allowed legacy and new platforms to run in parallel with zero impact on customers. Unlike conventional approaches, MICROSERVICES PLATFORM integrates microservices, Kafka/MSK-based real-time event streaming, resilience engineering through chaos testing, and an internal API marketplace. It supports bi-weekly feature deployments and self-service dev tools—an advanced combination rarely seen in regional banking. The initiative was driven by urgent business needs and a bold vision for long-term digital maturity, led under the strategic direction of Saket Saith, Group CTDO. It involved deep collaboration across IT Application Services, IT Operations, DevOps, and business teams spanning Retail, SME, and Corporate channels. The initiative also catalyzed a major cultural shift, empowering cross- functional squads with autonomy, observability, and continuous delivery capabilities. Classification: RAKBANK- Internal of the broader MICROSERVICES PLATFORM ecosystem, the IT Operations team also developed RAK Telemetry dashboards to provide real-time visibility across operations. The results have been transformational: 60% faster time-to-market, 40% reduction in change failure rate, 65% less downtime, 99.99% uptime, 35% fewer customer complaints, 70% service reuse, 30% infrastructure cost savings, 50% MTTR improvement, a 45% boost in developer productivity, and substantial savings over vendor-led alternatives. These outcomes have not only enhanced RAKBANK’s customer experience and engineering capabilities but also firmly positioned the bank as a tech-forward leader in digital banking innovation.
