CalBank is on a mission to change the way banking looks in Ghana, and they’re doing it with one key focus: accessibility. As one of the country’s top financial players, CalBank is reshaping physical distribution with a smart mix of expanding branches and reaching new communities through digital and agent banking.

Expanding nationwide: More branches, more agents, more access

While many banks worldwide are closing branches, CalBank is bucking the trend by expanding its physical network – in 2023 the bank opened four brand-new branches, bringing their total to 38 locations across Ghana. What’s more, the bank’s agent network has exploded, now boasting over 2,000 agent points nationwide. This rapid expansion ensures that even the most remote parts of the country have access to CalBank’s services.

The future of banking – In-branch and beyond

Tackling the classic headache of banking lines, CalBank’s new branches feature the Service Experience Hub, a digital self-service platform that enables customers to perform routine tasks like transferring money and checking balances. This smart setup cuts down wait times and ensures that service is as smooth as possible. Human assistance is always at hand though, with CalBank’s 600-plus branch employees undergoing regular training to keep the bank’s service top-notch.

Parallel to the physical network expansion, CalBank is also investing in digital solutions that optimize access to its services. From a powerful app and internet banking platform to QR code payments and mobile banking via text, the bank is moving with the times to ensure Ghanaians have banking at their fingertips.

Committed to sustainability

CalBank isn’t just thinking about business – it's also thinking green. The bank has invested in technology to automate operations and reduce paper consumption. On the energy side, CalBank is leading by example. Solar panels at most branches, including their flagship IFC-certified green building, now power a significant portion of operations. Their 500KW solar farm saves the bank around 30% of its energy consumption – a bold move for sustainability and cost-efficiency.

Financial access for all: Agent banking

CalBank’s dedication to financial inclusion goes beyond just branches. Since 2018, the bank has made significant strides in agent banking, allowing Ghanaians in underserved areas to access essential financial services without setting foot in a branch. Whether it’s opening a CalBank Snap Account, making deposits or paying bills, agent banking brings convenient services to even the most remote communities.

This strategy isn’t just about expansion – it’s about empowerment. CalBank is ensuring that every Ghanaian, no matter where they live, can access the banking services they need. And with over 2,000 agents now part of their network, the bank is shaping a more inclusive financial future for all.
