BBVA Spain has introduced a new privacy tool in its mobile banking app that uses artificial intelligence to detect when someone else is looking at your screen. If more than one face is identified, the app automatically hides sensitive details such as account balances and card information.
How it works
Called “discrete mode,” the feature relies on facial detection via the phone’s camera—with the user’s permission. It operates in real time and requires no manual input once activated. The goal is to let users manage their finances safely while in public places like trains, waiting rooms, or queues.
Available for iOS and Android
Discrete mode is available to all BBVA Spain customers using Android or iOS devices, provided they’ve enabled camera access. It’s part of a wider update to the app, which also includes new AI-powered tools for personalization and money management. As mobile banking becomes more common, features like this aim to address growing concerns around visual privacy in everyday situations.
