The Anti-Stigma Program aimed to train public school teachers to develop content that fosters socio-emotional competencies among high school students. This initiative was structured into three key areas: creating content for both educators and students, implementing training through specialization and extension courses, and producing educational materials such as lesson plans, which were distributed to schools by the state’s Department of Education. This integrated approach ensured that teachers were adequately prepared to promote the development of socio-emotional skills, aligning their pedagogical practices with contemporary educational guidelines.
Partner states, including Goiás, Minas Gerais, Pará, and São Paulo, successfully implemented the lesson plans and training programs launched in 2023. In 2022, Goiás received 120 lesson plans for three years of high school, followed by an additional 80 plans for the 8th and 9th grades in 2023, totaling 200 lesson plans. Minas Gerais and Pará also received 120 lesson plans for high school.
By 2024, the program had expanded to include teachers from all high school subjects, promoting a cross-cutting culture of mental health. To support this expansion, a new 120-hour extension program was created, which launched in September and attracted 11,308 pre-registered participants across the states of Minas Gerais, Bahia, Pará, and São Paulo. In addition to teachers, the partnering departments requested spaces for school administrators and technical teams, ensuring collective participation in the development of socio-emotional competencies and strengthening public policies in each state. A total of 1,977 school administrators and 391 technical team members were pre-registered.
In Minas Gerais, a two-day training session was held for 300 regional leaders overseeing all public schools in the state. Through this initiative, in 2024, the Institute reached 21,010 teachers and 2,113,657 students through the departments of education.
The program's scientific monitoring was conducted by an independent committee of researchers who evaluated the change theory, assessment tools, and data analysis. To measure the outcomes, a validated diagnostic evaluation was applied, involving 4,509 teachers and 131,238 students from September to December 2024. This contributed to a total of 194,619 participants in the surveys conducted in 2023 and 2024.
Papo de Cabeça Platform:
The Papo de Cabeça platform aimed to inform users about mental health, well-being, and socio-emotional skills through personalized knowledge pathways. Launched in September 2023 for undergraduate students from Grupo Ânima Educação, the platform offered certification opportunities in the University Extension Program. Feedback was collected from 566 users, and 1,919 participants attended synchronous meetings that promoted the platform and discussed mental health.
In 2024, the platform was made available to students from the specialization and extension programs offered by the Ânima Institut, featuring content aligned with CASEL’s five competencies in various formats such as podcasts, eBooks, and videos. The promotion within postgraduate classes led to a peak in access in September 2024.
Impact of the Anti-Stigma Program (2022 to 2024):
Over three years of operation, the program exceeded its target by 162%, totaling positively impacting 1,160,439 lives and transforming 2,198,978 lives, for a total of 3,359,417 impacted lives.
This success is attributed to the collaboration with state Departments of Education and the demand from municipalities for courses aimed at teachers in the final years of elementary school.
In Minas Gerais, there were 1,207 pre-registrations for teachers, 89 in Bahia, 218 in Pará, and 463 in São Paulo. The technical team included 282 pre-registrations in Minas Gerais, 92 in Pará, 7 in Bahia, and 10 in São Paulo, totaling 391. In Minas Gerais specifically, a two-day training was conducted for all regional leaders responsible for every public school in the state (300 individuals). More details can be found on Slide 23 – Case Study. As a result, in 2024, the Institute reached 21,010 teachers and 2,113,657 students through the Departments of Education.
The program's scientific monitoring was supported by an independent committee composed of Brazilian researchers from various specialties who met monthly to approve the change theory, evaluation tool, and data analysis. To measure the results, a validated diagnostic assessment tool was applied by the Scientific Committee, containing 9 blocks and 97 questions for students, and 8 blocks and 81 questions for teachers, from September to December in the five partner states of Ânima Institut. In 2024, 4,509 teachers and 131,238 students participated in the evaluation.
