Innovation presentation
Pivo Junior is Finland’s first banking app specifically designed for children and young adults between 10 and 17 years of age. With the mobile app, young people can easily monitor and understand how they spend their money. As money is becoming more and more abstract, there is a deep concern of increasing finance-related problems especially among young adults. Children and youngsters often simply do not have proper tools for monitoring their bank accounts and how they spend their money. For example, in Finland children under 15 years can have debit payment cards but they are not given full online banking privileges. For basic actions, such as checking the account balance, children have to ask help from their parents. This undermines the children's independence and is one of the reasons why children consider banking related topics as “uninteresting adult stuff”. This makes it difficult to learn how to use money responsibly and independently already at an early age. Pivo Junior provides a clear, simplistic user interface tailored to young adults with bright colours, youthful greetings and, naturally, emojis. With the app, users can instantly see their account balance, their balance trend and balance forecast if the user’s expenditure continues in a similar manner. Graphic spheres in different sizes indicate where their money is actually going. We wanted to provide an app that supports children and young adults in becoming responsible, independent and educated when it comes to understanding and managing their everyday finances.
