Innovation presentation
The BV bank's sustainability aspiration is “To foster social development through sustainable action with our ecosystem”. To strengthen our aspirational and sustainable commitment, in May 2021 we launched our “2030 Commitments for a lighter future”. In it, we assume 5 public goals with the aim of getting closer to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and which are in line with the UN Global Compact, of which we are signatories. The 2030 commitments are aligned with our aspirations and based on 3 pillars of action (i) neutralize our environmental impact; (ii) accelerate social inclusion and; (iii) mobilize resources to promote sustainable businesses. In December 2022, we invested R$7,4 million in 30 projects to be executed in 2023, including sports projects – one of the main social inclusion channels supported by BV bank. Since 2018, the “BV Esportes” platform has been investing its own resources to support institutes of athletes. In 2022, more than 10 projects were supported by BV Esportes, generating impact for around 2,800 children and young people. The Instituto Próxima Geração (IPG) is one of the social projects supported by BV bank whose purpose is to promote the inclusion and social transformation of young people through sport, contributing to a better quality of life, to the awareness of sports practice, to the generation of professional training opportunities and to reduce the exposure to social risks. More than 500 children have already been supported by IPG, generating a huge positive social impact. Currently, the institutes supported by BV Esportes are highly dependent on the financial resources allocated by BV bank, reaching +90% of the resources raised in some cases. Therefore, one of our biggest challenges was to propose a new way of diversifying the sources of financial support for BV Esportes institutes, so that more impact (and in a financially sustainable way) is generated by these organizations. The “Doar Sonhos” project was launched in an open innovation partnership with a Brazilian startup as a blockchain-based donation platform initially reserved for BV bank employees. This new donation channel allowed, for each donation made, a Social NFT to be given to the donor. Linked to this Social NFT, a package of exclusive experiences were made available: raffles for tickets to shows (e.g. The Weeknd, Roger Waters), personalized project item kits, tennis lessons, and much more. Through this dynamic of rewards and exclusive experiences, we enable BV bank employees to further immerse themselves in the culture of innovation (through the web3/NFT agenda) and social impact (through donations) on a personal level, as well as generating more added value to IPG institute through of a potential new source of revenue and greater financial support beyond that provided by BV Esportes. In this proof of concept, in just over 1 month, +200 employees made donations and received their Social NFTs, totaling more than R$ 11,000 donated to the institute. From this pilot-scale initiative, important learnings were obtained from different perspectives (business, infrastructure, technology, user experience, culture/education) that will enable future growth for other socio-environmental projects and the opening to other types of donors in addition to our employees, scaling the positive impact on our society through innovation.
