Motion Alert is Discovery Insure’s new early-warning safety feature that comes with the Crowd Search Sensor by offering an additional layer of protection using new telematics technology.

Vitality Drive is Discovery Insure’s behavioural-based incentive programme that uses vehicle telematics to measure a client’s driving behaviour (how a client accelerates, brakes, takes corners, their speed and whether they use their cellphone while driving) and provide rewards for driving well. One of the telematics devices we offer is the Crowd Search Sensor which works by connecting to the Discovery Insure app and giving clients immediate feedback after each trip. Crowd Search is our state-of-the-art wireless tracking device that has enhanced stolen-vehicle recovery (SVR) technology, enabling Discovery Insure to locate and recover stolen vehicles. In the event of theft, a client can contact our call centre to initiate the recovery services. After that, the device in their vehicle will connect to our wireless network to alert Discovery Insure of the vehicle’s location, facilitating its recovery.

Motion Alert detects when a vehicle is not being driven by the primary driver as their cellphone is not linked to the Crowd Search Sensor. This may indicate possible theft of the client’s vehicle. Discovery Insure will send a notification to the client informing them that their vehicle is being driven without their phone being present in the car and the client can respond to the notification by either requesting emergency assistance or inform us that they are aware that their vehicle is being driven by someone else. Discovery Insure will also send an SMS to the primary driver and to the planholder if we do not receive a response.

Uniqueness of the project

Most stolen-vehicle recovery services rely on the client informing the service provider that their vehicle has been stolen. This may be a period of time after the vehicle has been stolen, for example if it is stolen out of the client’s driveway or from a shopping centre parking lot.

Motion Alert avoids this delay between the vehicle being stolen and the client finding out about it. This provides a proactive safety measure that allows us to contact the client first and initiative recovery services quickly and more efficiently thereby improving the chances of vehicle recovery. This is aligned with Discovery’s core purpose of enhancing and protecting lives as well Discovery Insure’s own purpose of creating a nation of safe drivers.
