Our project successfully addressed and resolved UPI transaction failures caused by heavy server loads. By purchasing and deploying new servers with a strategic node allocation, we significantly reduced transaction failures, ensuring seamless and reliable payment processing.

Last year, our UPI transactions encountered frequent failures due to the heavy load on our Core Banking System (CBS) servers. This issue not only impacted our transaction success rate but also posed a risk to customer satisfaction and operational efficiency. We used to receive 1.2 million UPI transactions per day, but now we are handling 2.5 million transactions per day. Additionally, transaction counts for IMPS, AEPS, ATM, NEFT, and RTGS have also increased.

Since multiple transactions were failing, we wanted to reduce the failure rate and be prepared to handle more load as the daily online transaction count increases by 2%. For example, last year, the UPI transaction volume was approximately 1.5 million per day; now, we are processing 2.5 million transactions per day. This volume may increase to 3.5 million in the next few months.

So, we planned to upgrade our infrastructure along with creating multiple services for each payment service. We created multiple nodes, including 2 nodes for branch banking, 2 nodes for APIs, and 3 nodes for payments. Additionally, we created multiple services for each payment channel, which helped balance the load.

Impact and Results: 1. Reduced Transaction Failures: Post-implementation, UPI transaction failures dropped dramatically, ensuring that all payment transactions were processed without declines. 2. Improved System Reliability: The strategic node allocation allowed for balanced load distribution across servers, enhancing overall system reliability and performance. 3. Enhanced Customer Satisfaction: By ensuring successful and timely payment processing, customer trust and satisfaction were significantly boosted. 4. Operational Efficiency: The new server setup facilitated smoother operations, reduced downtime, and minimized disruptions.
