Innovation presentation

The Digital Onboarding project was conceived to modernize the account opening process and align with Banco BPI’s broader strategy of digital transformation and customer-centricity. Recognizing that the majority of accounts were still being opened through traditional, branch-based methods, the bank introduced a new digital onboarding process accessible both in-branch and remotely via the BPI mobile app. This process allows customers to open an account using biometric identity verification through video-selfie. Developed in partnership with Veridas, a leader in biometric technology, the solution integrates facial recognition, proof-of-life detection, document capture, and OCR, all verified through a secure back-office workflow. This ensures regulatory compliance and security while delivering a seamless customer experience. The initiative has already led to improvements in operational efficiency, increased adoption of digital channels, and enhanced customer satisfaction. It also supports the bank’s sustainability goals by reducing paper usage and promotes financial inclusion by reaching underserved or remote populations.
