Innovation presentation
The Blua Sanitas Valdebebas Hospital was created as Sanitas' first native digital hospital, conceived from its initial design to integrate technology into all healthcare and operational processes. Its goal is to move towards a more efficient, digital hospital model that is aligned with environmental sustainability, combining high-quality healthcare with responsible use of energy resources.
The development of this hospital responds to the need to anticipate current and future challenges in the healthcare system, both in terms of energy efficiency and digital transformation. The electrification of its systems and the use of 100% renewable electricity significantly reduce its environmental impact, while its digital design facilitates more connected, agile, and patient-experience-oriented care.
With this project, Sanitas is positioning itself at the forefront of the hospital sector in Spain by committing to a model that integrates digitalization and sustainability from the outset. The hospital stands out clearly from other traditional centers by demonstrating that it is possible to substantially reduce emissions associated with hospital activity without sacrificing healthcare innovation.
The hospital is inspired by the principles of energy efficiency, electrification, and digitization applied on a large scale in other areas, transferring them to the healthcare environment. The project also incorporates a vision of urban integration, with the creation of new green spaces open to the surrounding area and designed to improve the relationship between the hospital and the local community.
The development of the Blua Sanitas Valdebebas Hospital has involved the collaboration of multiple areas of Sanitas, including the infrastructure, sustainability, technology, innovation, operations, and healthcare teams. This cross-functional coordination has been key to integrating digital and environmental criteria in a consistent manner throughout the project.
Among the main milestones achieved, a 94% reduction in CO₂ emissions compared to the average for Spanish hospitals stands out, thanks to the electrification of systems and the exclusive use of renewable electricity. Added to this is the creation of a large green space with thousands of trees in the hospital's surroundings and the consolidation of a digitally native hospital model that reinforces Sanitas' position as a benchmark in healthcare innovation and sustainability.
