Innovation presentation

Mapfre BioInsurance is a new rural/forestry insurance product created to support non-commercial reforestation projects focused on ecological restoration and the generation of carbon credits. The main objective  of this product is to ensure the continuity of these projects in the face of the greatest risk associated with this type of environmental asset, namely forest fires.

This initiative has come about in a context of strong growth in the carbon credits market and a lack of insurance solutions to protect the environmental value of developing forests. Existing insurance policies focus primarily on protecting timber as an economic asset, leaving a significant gap for projects focused on environmental restoration and ecosystem services.

BioSeguro was inspired by Mapfre's sustainability strategy and the need to create instruments that enable decarbonization and emissions offsetting in a safe and reliable manner. The product has its origins in one of Mapfre’s innovation program, and evolved through a collaborative process between the Technical, Sustainability, Business, and Rural Insurance areas.

To date, the main achievement has been the creation and launch of a groundbreaking product in the Brazilian insurance market, officially presented during COP30 in November 2025 in Brazil, positioning Mapfre as a benchmark in sustainable innovation and environmental asset protection.
