Global Head L&H Claims Solutions
Swiss Re recently won gold in the Qorus-NTT DATA Innovation in Insurance Awards 2025 in the Operational Efficiency category for its AI-powered Claims Processing Ecosystem, a SaaS platform integrating workflow, analytics, and document management with external data to reduce turnaround times and improve claimant experience through personalized digital guidance. Tim Quick, Head of Global L&H Claims Solutions at Swiss Re, tells us more about this innovative project and what the win means to him and his team.
Can you introduce yourself and tell us more about your role at your company?
As Head of Global L&H Claims Solutions, I oversee the global product development and delivery teams responsible for Swiss Re's life and health (L&H) insurance claims solutions. Before joining Swiss Re, I held senior positions at a leading L&H insurtech company and various leadership roles within primary carriers. In addition to my responsibilities at Swiss Re, I serve as the Vice President of the Board of Directors at the International Claims Association (ICA), where I also co-founded and previously chaired the Technology and Analytics Committee.
What made you most proud of the winning project? What was your greatest achievement in making it happen?
Having previously led several operational areas for primary insurers, I understand the challenges posed by manual processes in both in-force and claim functions, and how these can result in suboptimal claim experiences and outcomes. Consequently, I developed a keen interest in enhancing operations through technology, with a focus on positioning claimants and claims professionals at the core of our product development decisions. This external, customer-centric approach has driven our product roadmaps, ultimately leading to the recognition we have received with this award, which I consider our most significant achievement.
Maintaining a stringent focus on the needs of our reinsurance customers and their end-users is the driving force behind our comprehensive claims administration platform. In life and health insurance, the claims decision and experience are central to fulfilling the promise of every insurer's brand. The global product team I lead is dedicated to ensuring that every promise is upheld, and every claimant's experience is as empathetic and supportive as possible. Today's claimants are tomorrow's policyholders, and when we deliver an efficient, accurate, and supportive experience, we effectively demonstrate the value of life insurance and uphold the integrity of the insurer's brand.
What the most important thing you would tell someone considering embarking on a similar project?
Know your product's vision, the problems it solves, and the value it creates. Focus on the customer, and strive to balance technology with human needs and human experiences.

What's coming next for the project?
Our comprehensive solution addresses the entire L&H claims value chain, from digital intake to case management and automated assessment. We have developed deterministic expert systems and integrated generative AI capabilities for data extraction and summarization. As advanced computing and AI continue to evolve, we are committed to responsibly and transparently incorporating these features across our product suite. We are actively prototyping innovative methods to combine deterministic and generative models, as well as AI agents within our L&H product lines. The next steps in this process are already underway, and we are encouraged by the early outcomes and insights.
What would you say to companies that might consider entering the 2026 Innovation in Insurance Awards?
Developing and maturing new technologies for the insurance sector is hard work for product development and delivery teams. If your company has developed or evolved a product that you're proud of, I highly recommend you enter your innovation for recognition by Qorus. Celebrating the hard work of your product and development teams is as important as developing products that solve real problems for your customers.
What does this award mean to you and your innovation team?
Our team is dedicated to enhancing the accuracy, efficiency, and overall experience of L&H claims. Awards such as this provide us with an opportunity to reflect on our achievements and understand their significance. I am immensely proud of our team's accomplishments and commend Swiss Re's commitment to advancing our industry through the introduction of innovative claims technology and services to our clients.
