Banque Populaire and Caisse d’Epargne launch eco-conscious home insurance initiative

The initiative reflects growing public concern over environmental issues. A recent Ademe survey found that 80% of French people worry about environmental and health impacts, and 78% are willing to change their habits to benefit the planet. The new insurance model aligns with those sentiments by rewarding concrete actions with long-term savings.

Tiered discounts based on eco-actions

The insurance policy applies to both primary and secondary residences, including rental properties. It features a progressive discount structure, offering up to 15% off premiums depending on the number of eco-responsible criteria met:
• 1 criterion: 5% discount
• 2 criteria: 10% discount
• 3 criteria: 15% discount

To qualify, policyholders must meet at least one of the following: secure financing for energy-efficient renovations (such as a zero-interest eco-loan), own a home rated A or B on France’s energy performance scale (DPE), or complete work to mitigate risks like flooding or soil shrinkage due to drought.

Insurance as a climate engagement tool

The move is part of a broader strategy by the BPCE Group to align its financial services with the ecological transition. The design of the new policy encourages long-term property improvements and climate resilience while offering financial benefits in return.

With this model, the institutions aim to link insurance to measurable sustainability goals—an approach that may become increasingly common as climate concerns reshape consumer expectations and industry standards.
