American Express revolutionized social commerce by bringing its proprietary Card Sync technology to Twitter in March 2012. With this technology, American Express Cardmembers can securely sync their Cards with their Twitter accounts to get access to special couponless offers and to make purchases, all by using special #hashtags when they tweet. American Express is the first financial services company to introduce this type of technology, and it is uniquely positioned to do so because of its closed loop business model.
