Concept & Objectives
Cyquins is a digital platform designed for brokers and mid-market clients, replacing traditional manual cyber risk assessments with an automated cloud infrastructure scan. Instead of completing lengthy questionnaires, clients receive instant, data-driven insights into their actual cloud security posture — including clear findings and actionable remediation recommendations.
The objective was to create a lean, high-value solution for the mid-market: reducing complexity, accelerating underwriting, and turning cyber insurance into a tool that actively enhances client resilience rather than merely transferring risk.
Reasons Behind
Market feedback consistently indicated that traditional cyber underwriting is overly complex and time-consuming. Clients were routinely asked to complete 100+ question forms, while insurers required weeks to assess risk and provide coverage.
Internally, the underwriting process was equally resource-intensive. Our goal was to fundamentally redesign the experience: reduce end-to-end turnaround to 72 hours, increase transparency, and provide tangible value to clients. By automating cloud risk assessment, we deliver rapid, accurate insights that guide clients toward measurable improvements in their security posture.
State of Competition
Cyber risk assessment in Europe is still largely based on manual questionnaires or “outside-in” scanning tools that assess only external exposure. These approaches are either burdensome for clients or prone to false positives, offering limited visibility into real security risks.
Cyquins takes a fundamentally different approach. By performing a direct scan of the client’s cloud infrastructure, it provides genuine inside visibility into their cloud security. Unlike external scoring tools, it delivers precise findings along with actionable remediation guidance.
While isolated AWS-based insurance-linked scanning programs exist in the US, Cyquins is globally unique, covering multiple major cloud environments — including Azure, Microsoft 365, AWS, and Google Cloud. This breadth ensures comprehensive risk assessment and consistent value across diverse client infrastructures.
Sources of Inspiration
Cyquins was conceived within HDI Global’s Cyber department in response to repeated feedback from clients and brokers that traditional questionnaires were overly time-consuming and cumbersome. The ambition was to make cyber risk transparent, simplify the process, and provide actionable, data-driven insights that actively improve resilience.
Departments Involved
Development of Cyquins progressed through close collaboration across multiple teams. After the initial concept in HDI Global’s Cyber department, the Innovation team further refined the idea. AWS contributed to the conceptual design and Minimum Viable Product (MVP) creation, while our technology partner Prowler implemented the platform. This coordinated effort ensured alignment between business, innovation, and technology throughout the project lifecycle.
Main Results So Far
Cyquins has already achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first AWS partner in Europe for cyber insurance. At the time of submission, the platform is still in rollout, so precise figures are not yet available. However, during the test and development phases, multiple clients were able to run scans, and several of them were successfully cyber-insured based on the results.
Feedback from these early users highlighted the clear value of the scans for clients, demonstrating the platform’s tangible benefits. Additionally, the test phase indicated a comparatively higher conversion rate, underlining the positive impact of Cyquins on both client engagement and underwriting efficiency.
