PBZ Group (Privredna Banka Zagreb and PBZ Card) in collaboration with Intesa Sanpaolo Card Ltd., started NFC HCE mobile payment pilot on the global American Express network, HCE (Host Card Emulation) for mobile NFC (Near-Field Communication) payments with American Express cards at POS (Point-of-Sale) terminals in Croatia. NFC HCE mobile payment represents NFC mobile payments by storing card account details in a secure cloud. When a cardholder initiates a payment using an NFC-enabled mobile phone, the card account and payment details are transmitted securely from the cloud to the NFC-enabled mobile phone equipped with appropriate payment app thus enabling the cardholder to complete the transaction in a fast, secure manner at POS terminal. This is the first NFC mobile payment project in Croatia and for American Express globally and one of the few NFC project based on HCE (Host Card Emulation) in the world. With NFC HCE solution, PBZ Group will be able to offer NFC mobile payment services to all of its cardholders in Croatia, regardless of the mobile network operator and on multiple payment networks. So far pilot has demonstrated excellent results with fast transaction performance, user convenience and great reactions from both pilot users and merchants included in pilot.
