March 2022 – refugees from Ukraine meet serious financial problem – they are not able to exchange hryvnias for Polish zlotys because bureaux de change suspend the purchase of hryvnias or buy the currency at a drastically reduced exchange rate. Narodowy Bank Polski – the Polish central bank – offers a solution for the problem faced by thousands of refugees – the innovative hryvnia exchange programme.

Innovation presentation

NBP offered a solution of the problem: in cooperation with the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) and PKO Bank Polski, it made it possible for Ukrainians to exchange UAH at a fair and contracted exchange rate. It was possible to exchange UAH at branch offices of PKO BP in Poland from March to September 2022.
