Innovation presentation

Climate change represents one of the greatest contemporary global challenges, affecting millions of people through extreme events such as floods, severe droughts, and the increase in the average global temperature. In this context, it is essential that companies, governments, and civil society adopt effective strategies to mitigate the effects of global warming and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

In line with this commitment, the company launched an innovative CO₂ offset project for the 24-hour Assistance and Replacement Car services in automotive insurance in 2023. The initiative expanded its scope in 2024 to also include mass products such as home insurance, property insurance for small businesses, real estate insurance, and condominium insurance. The project has already offset more than 11,306 tons of carbon, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility, and has impacted more than 212,024 customers.

Faced with this reality, the company structured an environmental offset model with the objective of neutralizing the emissions generated by these services. In addition to mitigating environmental impact, the project aims to engage and raise awareness among customers, brokers, and service partners about the importance of sustainability, demonstrating that it is feasible to adopt responsible practices throughout the insurance sector value chain.

Project objectives:

Offset the CO₂ emissions generated by the 24-hour Assistance and Replacement Car services, as well as the Assistance services for Mass Products.

Engage policyholders, brokers, and partners in the sustainability agenda.

Contribute to environmental projects that promote positive impacts on the environment and affected communities.

Strengthen the company's ESG strategy and consolidate its role as a pioneer in sustainable initiatives in the insurance sector.

How the project works:

Carbon offset is achieved through the purchase of carbon credits, directed at two high-impact environmental projects:

REDD+ Jari Amapá Project: Focuses on the preservation of the Amazon Rainforest, reducing deforestation, and promoting the socioeconomic development of local communities, including small rural producers.

Delta Project: Contributes to the expansion of renewable energy in Brazil through the installation of eight wind farms in Maranhão, reducing dependence on fossil fuels and GHG emissions in the country's energy matrix.

The process occurs as follows:

Whenever a customer requests an assistance service (tow truck, taxi, plumber, electrician, locksmith, among others), the insurance calculates the amount of CO₂ generated by the operation.

This volume of carbon is then offset through the purchase of carbon credits from certified environmental projects.

At the end of the service, the policyholder receives communication informing them about the compensation carried out, increasing their awareness of the importance of the action.

The insurer stands out as a pioneer in such initiatives in the Brazilian insurance market, integrating environmental actions directly into the services offered to customers. Additionally, this initiative is completely free for the policyholder. The company maintains a rigorous monitoring plan to ensure the transparency and effectiveness of the project. The acquired carbon credits are verified by internationally recognized entities, and the supported environmental projects undergo periodic audits to ensure their effectiveness.

The results of the initiative are reported in the company's annual sustainability report, highlighting its commitment to the global climate agenda.

The carbon offset project in 24-hour Assistance and Replacement Car services strengthens the role of guarantees in mitigating environmental impacts and building a more sustainable future. By integrating sustainability into the services provided, the initiative not only reduces the company's carbon footprint but also fosters a cultural change in how customers, brokers, and partners perceive their environmental responsibility.

The initiative received positive feedback from the market. During the launch event on July 12, 2024, regarding carbon offset in mass products, executives and partners emphasized the relevance of the innovation for the ESG agenda in the insurance sector.
