Being a customer owned bank, but also Denmark’s, by far, leading lender, Nykredit has a great potential, but also responsibility, to support our customers on their sustainability journey and in particular the green transition. This includes, among others, developing green value propositions, solutions and product, and making sure that being green is the ‘easy’ choice for our customer. And because we are owned by an association of customers, with the vision to give back, we are in a unique position to provide extremely attractive and competitive green solution to our customers.

In Nykredit we have an ambition on behalf of our customers. Being green should be an easy choice!
That is why we continuously aim to provide an attractive range of green products, at an attractive price.
We have during 2020 and 2021 launched several solutions as a strong add-on the our value proposition for homeowners. Solutions, which support homeowners who has the ambition to live, drive, renovate and invest in a sustainable and green way.
When designing and prioritizing new green solutions, three of the UN climate goals, in particular, have our attention.

This is where we believe we can contribute with the largest effect and support our customers the most.
Thus, this has also been our starting point for our six green solutions launched during 2020 and 2021, targeted Danish homeowners
• Energy calculator (Energiberegner*)
Digital calculator, which based on address information of the homeowners house, estimates the financial potential in e.g. replacing the energysource, insulating the house – and also estimates the impact on the environment
• Green home check-up (EnergiTjek*)
Certified energy-consultant reviews the specific home and advise on the most relevant energy improvements
• Green home loan (Grønt boliglån)
Financially attractive financing of home energy renovations
• Subsidy for oil-fired boiler replacement*
A 10.000 DKK (1300 EUR) subsidy for customers replacing the oil-fired boiler with a heat pump
• Green car loan (Grønt billån)
Financially attractive car financing for electric, hybrid and plugin cars
• Sustainable investments
Sustainable and responsible investments which focus on the environment, social responsibility and strong governance.
* Solutions are available and branded through the Nykredit owned company Totalkredit, thus also available for the more than 50 local and regional banks in the Totalkredit partnership.
The launched green solutions were supported by a number marketing and sales activities with focus on:
1. Creating awareness and knowledge
2. Creating liking and preference
3. Achieving conviction and purchase.
All customer segments have our focus, and in addition to the solutions targeted our private customers, we have launched a number of financial solutions to our corporate customers. We have also established a foundation – Naturskovfonden – with the purpose to support planting of new forest areas.
Uniqueness of the project
Nykredit is different. Yes, we are a bank. And a mortgage provider too. But in one important area we are different. We are owned by an association of customers. Being customer-owned, we are in a unique position to give something back to our customers and society, when we are doing well.
This also gives us a unique opportunity when it comes to our green solutions. All of our green solutions are “sponsored” by our owner Forenet Kredit (owned by the customers) though a subsidy for 2020 and 2021 of 200.000.000 kr. (+25 mio. EUR). This financial support gives us the opportunity to offer our green solution to our customers at a very attractive and competitive price. And at the same time keeping it financially attractive for Nykredit. As examples we offer our green home loan at an interest rate of 0 % and our green car loan at an interest rate of 1 % - both without any fees.
At the same time our extremely strong footprint in the Danish mortgage lending market puts us in a position where we can reach a large group of customers, thus hopefully support a large green impact.
